Clinical Research

Dr. Mandarino has almost forty years of experience in “GCRC-type” clinical human physiology studies in the area of type 2 diabetes and metabolism. Standard techniques include euglycemic and hyperglycemic, hyperinsulinemic clamp experiments for assessing insulin action and secretion in vivo, exercise studies (acute and training), muscle biopsies for analysis of biochemical, bioenergetic, and molecular events in skeletal muscle, adipose tissue biopsies. 31P-MRS, in collaboration with Biomedical Research Imaging, for assessing energy metabolism in tissues in vivo in humans.
